Coming to a Home School Near You

A California appeals court ruling clamping down on homeschooling by parents without teaching credentials sent shock waves across the state this week, leaving an estimated 166,000 children as possible truants and their parents at risk of prosecution.

One comment, then go read the article yourself. I find it ironic that the Children's Law Center of LA wants children "in a place daily where they would be observed by people who had a duty to ensure their ongoing safety." Call me a backward hillbilly, but aren't parents the number one people who have a duty to ensure the ongoing safety of their children? If they believed that the Long children were not safe in their home school, then they should have sued for removal of the children into protective custody.

Amen, sista!
They had a piece about it on the local news. My eyes focussed.
Praise God some woman over the Texas Education Board just said Texas home schools could just use a little more oversight. She called it absurd that parents should have teaching degrees in order to teach their own children, but would like to hold parents more accountable.
I agree, only in that parents should have a lesson plan, not be required to test and grade their kids, or that children comply with certain age/grade appropriate levels.
Just my two cents.
